HISTORY
Launched in 2015, 1017 ALYX 9SM emerged as Matthew Williams' independent venture after gaining experience working with prominent figures such as Virgil Abloh, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, and Heron Preston. Williams saw this as an opportunity to establish his own brand, marking a pivotal moment in his creative journey. Despite the seemingly cryptic name, there is a purpose behind it. "1017" signifies October 17th, Matthew's birthday, while "ALYX" represents the name of his eldest daughter. Furthermore, "9SM" pays homage to the brand's initial studio location at 9 Saint Mark's Place. Initially focused on womenswear, the brand expanded to include menswear in 2017, with a precursor being a commissioned capsule collection for Hiroshi Fujiwara in 2016. Matthew Williams has gained recognition for his use of sustainable and technical fabrics, showcasing his dedication to extensive research and development.
